The Intergroup Dialogue Project (IDP)
is an academic initiative grounded in theory and practice that creates
community across difference
through critical dialogue.

Human Connection

Social Identity Development
Social Identity Development
Exploring the impact of social identities on individual’s feelings, perspectives and experiences; and understanding how these manifest as discrimination and privilege at individual, interpersonal and institutional levels.
Intergroup Communication
Intergroup Communication
Collaborative communication in which people create shared meaning by reflecting on and sharing their lived experiences.
Strategic Change
Strategic Change
Comprehending our own roles in complex systems of inequity, pursuing opportunities for social change, and leveraging personal and collective resources to strive for social justice.
Why
Our vision is a Cornell community of…
Intentionally rebalancing existing power disparities at interpersonal and institutional levels.
Embracing our personal and group identities at individual and intragroup levels.
Mutually recognizing each other’s desire to be seen, heard and treated fairly.
Seeing one another with empathy.
Recognizing and seeking to understand others’ needs and feelings.
How
Through the ongoing process of critical dialogue, IDP strives to transform the entire Cornell community. IDP collaborates with many departments, programs, and student organizations to develop and deliver offerings ranging from three-hour-long introductory experiences to intensive semester-long courses. In these intimate, peer-facilitated sessions, participants explore topics of human connection, social identity development, intergroup communication, and strategic change.
