Humans of IDP #104: Jalen ’23 & Vic ’24

Today’s #HumansofIDP are Jalen Knight ’23 and Vic Capobianco ’24! This spring they facilitated our morning section together. Here's what these two have to say about IDP and one another!

Why IDP?

Jalen:

I chose IDP because I wanted to learn how inequality and privilege functioned in our society, and to think about how to impact change. I’ve stayed in IDP because as a facilitator and as a student I have learned the value of connecting with people in a world that prioritizes so many things over genuine and meaningful human connection.

Vic:

IDP is unlike any other class I’ve taken at Cornell in both structure and content. It has introduced me to countless nuanced perspectives that challenge me to reevaluate the broader structures around me. In IDP there is no limit on my intellectual and individual growth, and I am so grateful to continue to be a part of this community!

What's your favorite thing about your co-facilitator?

Jalen:

My favorite thing about Vic is her humor and her ability to be open-minded. I have loved getting to build a friendship with her over listening to each other, giving advice, and focusing on our students’ learning. I enjoy watching our students realize their potential and respond to our feedback. Vic has been such a thoughtful and kind partner in this process.

Vic:

I don’t have just one favorite thing about Jalen. It is clear that she is so passionate about this work and the growth of our students. Jalen’s grounded nature is so comforting and makes me feel stabilized and confident that we can tackle any session together. When I’m facilitating with Jalen, I know we’re on the same team.
