Freedom of Expression: Fostering Curiosity through Dialogue in the Classroom is an interactive event marking the commencement of the inaugural theme year The Indispensable Condition: Freedom of Expression at Cornell.

The Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, and the Intergroup Dialogue Project are collaborating to provide this opportunity focusing on freedom of expression and dialogue in the classroom for Cornell instructors and academic leadership.

The goals of this event are to:

  • Connect with fellow academic professionals interested in fostering dialogue and freedom of expression in the classroom
  • Reflect with colleagues on hopes and fears related to dialogue and freedom of expression in the classroom
  • Examine the importance of dialogue and freedom of expression in the classroom, as well as the challenges associated with creating environments that invite such communication
  • Explore frameworks and practices that can foster curiosity through dialogue

This event will include breakfast, remarks from the Provost, a brief presentation about approaches to dialogic communication, a small panel of faculty sharing their own perspectives on the topic, and opportunities for attendees to have guided small group conversations.
